It is evident that a new model of learning must be created. But how will this be accomplished? It’s not just about the creation of digital infrastructures to support learning however, it will have to tackle the most fundamental questions of what education and learning is to be in the future.

This article discusses how to make learning a part of our lives in the digital age, drawing on the contributions of researchers and teachers from all over the world. This article is intended for learners (including parents and students), educators who develop curriculum, researchers and experts in learning sciences.

There are many opinions about what a digital-age education should look like. However, there is a general agreement that we must encourage the co-evolution between learning and modern communication technology. This includes looking at new opportunities for radical different conceptualizations of education and for the creation of new new practices which can be supported by modern technology for communication.

The fact that the majority of the current uses of information technologies in education are still a „gift-wrapping“ form (Fischer 1998) is one of the most significant challenges. These technologies are utilized as a complement to existing frameworks such as instructionism memorization, fixed curriculum and decontextualized learning. Many comparative studies utilize an actual classroom setting as a baseline. This limits the study to specific tasks and functions that are only available digitally.
